A Call for Immediate Presidential Action Over the Conduct of the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike
The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and indeed the entire Armed Forces, have been deeply embarrassed and bartered by the recent conduct of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike.
This act, beyond its surface implications, constitutes a grave endangerment to Nigeria’s national security a matter that must, above all else, remain the foremost priority of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. No nation that values the sanctity of its institutions and the authority of its Armed Forces can afford to overlook such an open act of insubordination and provocation against the men and women who daily risk their lives to defend the sovereignty and peace of the nation.
It is on record that Barr. Wike himself admitted that he was informed of the presence of military personnel at the property in question. Rather than following established protocol and seeking clarification through proper administrative or security channels, he reportedly left his office, proceeded to the location, confronted, and allegedly assaulted an officer in uniform who was leading a lawful team. Such conduct is unbecoming of any public officer, let alone a Minister of the Federal Republic sworn to uphold and defend the Constitution.
This action represents not only personal misconduct but also a direct affront to constituted authority and a breach of established channels of communication within government. It reflects a profound disregard for the discipline, hierarchy, and dignity of Nigeria’s Armed Forces. Beyond the individual act, it sends a dangerous signal to both the military and the public suggesting that political office holders can demean the Armed Forces with impunity.
The Armed Forces remain the bedrock of national unity and security. Any attempt, no matter how slight, to ridicule or undermine their authority must be condemned and decisively addressed. To ignore such conduct is to embolden future acts of indiscipline and weaken the moral and operational authority of the military.
Therefore, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must act swiftly and decisively. This is not a time for political considerations or partisan calculations. National security must never be politicized. The President should immediately suspend the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, pending the outcome of a thorough and impartial investigation.
Furthermore, a high-powered committee should be constituted to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident including the actions of all parties involved to ensure justice, transparency, and accountability. This will not only calm rising tensions but also reassure Nigerians that the integrity of the Armed Forces remains sacrosanct and beyond political interference.
Mr. President, the time to act is now. Leadership demands courage, impartiality, and the resolve to place national interest above personal or political relationships. The world is watching. Nigerians are watching. The Armed Forces, whose loyalty and dedication to the nation have never wavered, deserve your protection and decisive action.
Act now, Mr. President defend the honour of the Nigerian Armed Forces and preserve the sanctity of Nigeria’s national security.
