The former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator Tanko Al-Makura has described the local government election in the state as free, fair and credible.

Senator Al-Makura who stated this in an interview with journalists after casting his vote at Gayam ward in Lafia Local Government Area ( LGA) of the State on Saturday, said the election was conducted in compliance with the constitution of the country.

” This exercise is free , fair and credible. The people are conducting themselves in the most expected manner.

” I am impressed with the officials with the manner they conducted the election. I am also impressed to see a great team from the national headquarters of our great party who have come to witness and ensure our compliance with the constitution of the party and that of Nigeria,” he said.

The former Governor therefore called on those who would emerge winners to deliver dividends of democracy to the people through transparent and accountable leadership for the progress of the state.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the All Progressives Party ( APC) in the state, Dr Aliyu Bello expressed happiness at the peaceful conduct of the state’s councils polls.

Bello said APC is a peaceful party that has always conducted themselves in a peaceful manner at all elections.
He said it was quite unfortunate that other major political parties in the state especially the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) did not participate in the election.

“It is a shame that the so called opposition parties are not participating in this election. Every political party should participate in elections to enable their supporters exercise their franchise,” he concluded.

On his part, the Chairmanship candidate of African Democratic Congress ( ADC) for Lafia LGA, Hon Sagir Ibrahim commended the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission ( NASIEC) for conducting a free and fair election.

He expressed optimism that he would emerge the winner of the election.

Nigeria Post reports that 9 political parties participated in the election excluding PDP and the New Nigeria Peoples Party ( NNPP) that earlier withdrew from the contest.
