President Ahmed Bola Tinubu has commissioned a Lawn Tennis Court built by the Kogi State Commissioner For Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris for the Federal University Lokoja.
Performing the commissioning, President Tinubu who was represented by the Pro Chancellor and Chairman, Governing Council, Federal University Lokoja, Sen. Ndoma Egba, expressed gratitude to Asiwaju Asiru Idris, pointing out that the place of private partnership in funding and developing Universities cannot be overemphasized.
The unveiling of the lawn tennis court was part of activities marking the 8th convocation ceremony of the Federal University Lokoja.
President Tinubu pointed out that the days when funding of education and other infrastructure in Universities by Government is long gone, expressed his appreciation to the donor.
President Tinubu said the place of sports development side by side academic development remains paramount in moulding intellect, assured that the federal government will continue to amidst dwindling resources see to the funding of Universities in Nigeria.
” My deepest appreciation goes to the donor. He has proven to be a rare Nigerian. This investment will go a long way in producing graduates that would be mentally and emotionally intelligent”.
” Let me use this medium to call on other Nigerians to emulate the footsteps of Asiwaju Asiru Idris. He has taken a bold step in the development of Federal University Lokoja, and this gesture would for long be remembered”.
Earlier in his remarks, the Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi said the Lawn Tennis Court was built by the State Commissioner For Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Asiwaju Asiru Idris, described the feat as first of its kind.
He called on other well meaning individuals from the state to toe the footsteps of the Commissioner, pointing out that the development of Universities all over the world is no longer the exclusive preserve of Government alone.
