Kogi Council Poll: Mob Attack Elder Ubolo Over Alleged Imposition Of SDP Chairmanship Candidate In Ofu
Unspecified numbers of youths on Saturday invaded Ofaga village , the venue of a meeting where a faction of the Social Democratic Party, SDP members led by the former accountant general of Kogi State,.Elder Ubolo Okpanachi were plotting re- affirm the disputed nominated flag bearer of the party for the council elections in the state.
The former Accountant General called the meeting at his instance with some members of the faction loyal to him to re- endorsed Mr. Noah Akwu whose nomination was rejected by all the ward Chairmen and Local Government executives in the last aborted primaries .
The youths who got wind of the clandestine move by the embattled SDP chieftain invaded the scene and dispersed the gathering and made an attempt to attack him before he escaped with the aid of some securities attached to him .
The Youths later reassembled at Ugwolawo, the headquarters of the Local Government Council to attack the same faction who were so desperate at getting the ticket of the SDP at all cost .
Recall that the party executives at Local Government Council and wards Chairmen have last week petitioned the National Leadership of the SDP over the imposition of Mr. Noah Akwu was the flagbearer of the SDP by the camp of Elder Ubolo Okpanachi without a recourse to proper primaries.
The party executives alleged that Mr. Noah Akwu was involved in anti- party activities during and after the Governorship election in the state .
One of the SDP members, who simply gave his name as Samuel Wada from Ugwolawo ward 1 in Ofu Local Government Area claimed that Akwu was never an active member of the party and that many party members were aware of his role during the last election in the state .
“ This man voted for the PDP Governorship candidate , Dino Mekaye while his son campaigned for the All progressive Congress, APC.
“ His family was rewarded with one of his sons now as the zonal Chairman of PDP in Kogi East , while another one is now the councilors candidate of All progressive Congress, APC in Iboko/ Efaku ward .
“ Is politics a business venture ? We are not going to accept this and we must fight to the end .” He angrily stated .
Speaking on the sideline of the crisis ,One of the Leaders of the SDP in Ofu from Igo ward, Hon. Adejo Ikani , aka ‘’ Man to Man” has called on the Nigerian Police to arrest the situation by putting a halt to the attempt by Elder Ubolo Okpanachi’s faction to impose an unpopular candidate on the party while the National Secretariat was yet to take a decision on the petition written against the recent Kangaroo elections .
