An appeal has been made to the Kogi State Government to begin the process of opening up alternative roads through 500 unit from Ganaja area of Lokoja.
The Publisher, Editor in Chief, The Nigerian Post Newspaper, Abu Michael made the call following the near collapse of the Ganaja village road, pointing out that even without the annual flooding that usually cuts of the road, early warning signs point to the fact that an alternative road is now more needed.
Mr. Abu lauded the efforts of the State Government in the building of other road infrastructure development across the State, called on the State Government to immediately commence work on Opening up alternative road through the 500 unit estate as the early warning signs shows that before the end of July as against September in previous years, the Ganaja village road, though a federal road will no longer be motorable.
The Publisher described the Ganaja end of the road, though a federal road, has become a nightmare for motorists and users of the road, lamented that the residents of the area are going through harrowing experiences occasioned by the failed portion of the road, making it difficult to access the State capital and the metropolis from the East.
The Publisher thanked the Member Representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency, Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem for his support in making the road motorable in time past as well as for assisting in opening up alternative road during the last flood, solicited more support from him in making the movement of people living in the area less challenging, described the alternative roads as the only remedy to ease the pain faced by the people.
Mr. Abu said with the prediction by Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) that the 2023 flood would be the worst in history, appealed for early preparation and opening up of alternative roads in the 500 units so as to motorists caught in gridlocks and to forestall the hardship faced.
The Publisher described as unfortunate that efforts to fix the road by the Federal Government last year could not see the light of day, owing to poor supervision and monitoring by the Federal Ministry of Works in Kogi State.
