-.Late Senator A.T. Ahmed(Ebira) Kogi Central,
-Late Chief Sunday Awoniyi (Yoruba)Kogi West and
-Late Chief Makoji Stephen Achema(Igala) -Kogi East.
At the creation of Kogi State ,Kogi East fought for the creation of Okura State ,only Bassa Nge (Nupe) from the Eastern axis fought along with Ebiras and the Okuns for the creation of Kogi State ,because of the age long and the height of political marginalization, suppression,subjugation and dehumanization they were subjected to by the Igalas, from the then Igala Native Authority, whereas even their traditional rulers ,were removed at will ,without recourse to their traditions and culture.
And this was the reason Late Pa. Christopher Mawo Lakpini wrote a letter to the then Military head of State Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida on the need for the creation of Kogi State against Okura proposal State by the Igalas whereas his letter was honored and his request to have Lokoja as the State capital was approved.
In the new State first democratic dispensation, Ebira people were the brain behind Igala to be the state first elected Governor, for under old Kabba province that went to Kwara State. Ebira was made Governor in Kwara ie Late Governor Adamu Attah. So for equity play, Ebira people unanimously endorsed Prince Audu under National Republican Convention, (NRC), but the case was different in Social Democratic Party, ( SDP), as Stephen Achema lost the party ticket to Arc Olorunfemi an Okun man, with a just argument that even though,they are Yoruba,they have never had the opportunity from their axis to become Governor in Kwara State ,as such their desire to be Governor of the newly created state was just, and in order .
The Genesis of Igala Agenda
1. Ebira people in NRC made Prince Abubakar Audu their party candidate NRC ,in a bid to lay foundation for equity and power rotation,since the IGALAS were never allowed by Tivs to be Governor in Benue State,as earlier highlighted above.
2. SDP primary was contested between Arc Olorunfemi and Stephen Achema ,and when eventually Doctor Olorunfemi defeated Achema ,an Igala man , he Stephen Achema went home and told his Igala people to vote for an Igala man, which was Prince Audu.
This is the genesis of Igala Agenda ,which at then was unknown to the Ebira people who has a good concept for an egalitarian State , because of the following reason:
i.They were on a cause to lay power rotation foundation in the state among the three senatorial district, thereby champion the course of equity.
ii. The political views of party affiliations and the prospects of NRC winning the election,didn’t allowed the political actors in NRC to see the evil seed Doctor Stephen Achema was sowing ,although the seed he sowed eventually consumed him as he never lived to become Governor of Kogi State .
From the action and the seed of Stephen Achema, the Igala Agenda have never supported any tribes in Kogi State. To buttress this point, look at the power play that has ensued among the Igala since the state was created.
1. In 1992 Igala Agenda supported Prince Abubakar Audu.
2. In 1999 Igala Agenda supported Prince Abubakar Audu yet again.
3. In 2003, despite all that Ebira people have done for the Igalas to become 1st and 2nd elected Governor of Kogi State , Igala Agenda refused to support an Ebira Man , Senator A.T. Ahmed but opted to support Ibrahim Idris .
4. In 2007 Igala Agenda reaffirmed their support for Ibrahim Idris against Ebira, Senator Ohiare .
5. In 2011 Ibrahim Idris openly rigged Kogi State PDP Governorship Primary election in Lokoja against a Bassa Nge (Nupe ) man from Kogi West ,Lokoja, Abdulrazak Isa Kutepa ,by switching off Lokoja Township Stadium light at about 2:00am, and orchestrated ballots stuffing ,when he discovered Kutepa was defeating Igala Agenda.
It is on record that ,Kutepa happened to be a friend of the Igalas, and long time friend and business partners of former Governor Ibrahim Idirs Ibro. To crown it all, former Governor Ibrahim Idris took Kutepa to Mecca and sworn before Kaaba that he will hand over power to him as his successor .
Sadly, Igala Agenda defeated Kutepa for Echocho. However, blackmailers went behind and seized the window to destroyed Echocho. Afterwards, Ibrahim Idris couldn’t even trust anybody in Igala land but safe his In-law Captain Idris Wada the eventual replacement for Echocho ,even when he fell out with Governor Wada afterwards,he still had to support another family member Mr Musa Wada.
6. In 2015 Igala Agenda had defeated Kogi Agenda, and we had to resigned to fate and turned to God while supporting dual Igala Agenda in both APC and PDP .
7.As it’s pleases God, having seen the plight of other Kogites ,he had to organized death to wrestled power from the Igalas to Ebira and minorities for justice, and a pay back for the good heart of the Ebira’s Kogi founding fathers .
8.In 2019, Governor Yahaya Bello a sitting Governor wasn’t supported by Igala Agenda, the Governor being favoured by God, and a man wey sabi e way , had to strategically defeat Igala Agenda ( Musa Wada).
Despite the act of God in displaying ; the character and the attitudes of the Igala Agendaist hasn’t changed …?
In Summary, When Kogi Central and West leaders pleaded with Adoja,the Prince of the Niger H.E. late Prince Abubakar Audu to persuade him to support either Kogi West or Central to become Governor ; Here’s his replied:
See,…” I know my people “…a connotative response ,they won’t support you but vote me in ,it’s only me that can ‘SHIFT POWER” from East to either Central or West ….🤔😭
Similarly , after Governor Ibrahim Idris betrayed Kutepa and Clarence Olafemi who held up power in acting Governor capacity to paved way for Ibro reelection; Hear what he had to say ; If i shift power to Kogi Central or West ,i won’t be able to go to Igala land, because my people will kill me😲. Now reflects and relate it to what’s happening…!
If they tell you Governor Yahaya Bello was wrong to have pick Ododo a good man from Kogi Central, now ask them who have spent 19 years as Kogi Governor?
Why are they not supporting Kogi West to become Governor to justify their acclaimed equity pursuits.?
The failure of this Igala Agenda 2023 not to support Kogi West ,is the reason ,the agenda will fail .
