Stakeholders in mining communities in Nigeria have been asked to see leadership, with sharing of power from bottom to top, where everyone is giving a chance to be a leader as key driver in community organizing and mobilization.
Kenechukwu Onuorah, of Global Rights gave the charge at the day 3 of the 3 day ongoing training for critical stakeholders of Mining Host communities with the theme: “Rights, Responsibilities and Remedies”, organized by Global Rights on Fiscal Governance for Solid Minerals in Nigeria for members of the Federation, holding at K Class Hotel, Abuja.
In his presentation on Community Organizing and Mobilization, Mr. Kenechukwu pointed out that identifying leaders who are respected in the community, who are willing to take responsibility and for others to follow, remains key to community organizing.
Mr. Kenechukwu described leadership as a process through which people living in proximity take actions towards solving a problem, called for strategies, sense of organizing and taking action as veritable to achieving success by the community.
While pointing out that sharing leadership helps build a team, helps in leadership development, he described leadership sharing as democratic as it places less burden on a few individuals.
Mr. Kenechukwu called for mining communities to take organizing, inclusiveness, breadth of mission and vision as very important steps needed in community organizing, said community organizing enables community have direct reach and access to public officers they ordinarily would not have been able to achieve individually.
