An honest watchers of the political development in Nigeria would admit that His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello,
The incumbent Governor of Kogi State is a leader with a huge difference. He has strong willed, full of energy, youthful, loaded with wisdom, good-will of the people, above all he enjoys God’s divine support.
His patriotism and enthusiasm are never in doubt. He is a strong observer with a feeling heart, a man who is genuinely moved by the plights of others, a personality rare to find nowadays.
He hails from Agassa, a bursting community in Okene Local Government Area.
He graduated from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University ABU in 1999. His unquenchable thirst for higher education took him back to Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria for Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2002. He bagged the degree in 2004. Whilst pursuing his Masters, he also enrolled for professional certification with the Association of National Accountant of Nigeria (ANAN) at Jos (2002) and became a chattered fellow of ANAN in 2004.
It is worthy to note that His Excellency Alhaji Yahaya Bello has served meritoriously and contributed his quota to the development of his father land. He has received scores of honourary chieftaincy titles from many communities across the state as well as receiving awards at local and national levels such as The Best Governor in Nigeria on Security Management in 2016 given to him by the Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and The Best Performing Governor in Nigeria 2017 by Nigeria’s foremost newspaper, Daily Times. He has equally received the Security Personality of the Year 2020 Award, from the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies, Abuja. Today another award is being added to the kit of His Excellency and is coming courtesy of Kogi Built and Building Materials (BEBM). Alhaji Yahaya Bello is happily married and blessed with children.
For time and space constraint, below are major achievements of Governor Yahaya Bello in Kogi State especially on INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENTHIS INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT STRIDES Infrastructural development is an area the administration of Alhaji Yahaya Bello outclassed his critics. Within the last seven years in office, he has taken bold steps to develop all spheres of infrastructural needs of the state.
The investments in the area of infrastructure have also been deepened to support the growth of the private sectors and create jobs. At the inception of his administration, Alhaji Bello vowed to complete uncompleted and on-going projects.
His commitment and genuine concern for abandoned and uncompleted, but viable projects, propelled him to confirm his readiness to carry on with such projects.
He expostulates or frowns at the poor attitude of past leadership in the state towards the maintenance and rehabilitation of abandoned but vital social infrastructure in the state. Worried by the colossal waste occasioned by the syndrome of abandoned projects, the leadership boldly puts in place a comprehensive programme of action to rehabilitate abandoned but viable water, road and rural electrification projects. Throughout his elaborate tour of local government areas of the state before his election, Alhaji Yahaya Bello was visibly touched by the low quality of lives of the people which he personally remarked had been adversely affected by inadequate social facilities. He noted with regret that these abandoned projects were well conceived as their effective implementation would have brought improvement on people’s lives.
Alhaji Bello said nothing would have given him greater joy than to ensure the speedy completion of all the viable, uncompleted projects.
All these thoughts about these uncompleted projects and lack of it at all necessitated the inclusion of infrastructural development in his New Direction Agenda.
One very rare policy adopted by the present administration which is a departure from the past is the genuine desire to complete all inherited projects.
This is believed would save the state from having its resources tied down under the guise of abandoned projects.
On road construction and rehabilitation, the administration executed such projects in every nook and cranny of the state to open up the rural areas for improved economic activities. Urban and rural roads constructions are in progress scattered all over the 21 local government areas. Several bridges and culverts have been constructed in different parts of the state, this is to ease transportation.Several roads have been constructed and rehabilitated by the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello in Lokoja and in major towns in the state.Ditto of culverts.
Many township roads have received tremendous facelift.Construction of the first fly- over bridge around Ganaja junction in LokojaConstruction of a befitting office for workers of the Board of Internal Revenue.
Construction of a civic reception centre named in honour of President Muhammadu Buhari. Lighting up of about 200 hundred communities in Kogi East with electricity. Built a science based university named Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara. Provided and distributed over 100 tractors to all the 21 LGAs in the state.
Built the Ejiba rice mill in Kogi West.Provided tons of fertilizers and other farm inputs to farmers in the state. Provided 1,500 land tillers. Installation of medical equipment at 5-selected public hospitals in the state. Established the Okene Referral Hospital and upgrading in facilities in Gegu, Ajaokuta and Isanlu.Provided a facelift to school of Nursing Obangede and this very institute.
Construction and renovation of new wings of building at the Specialist Hospital, Lokoja. These are just very few of his numerous infrastructural footmarks in the state in the last seven years.
His terrific performance as the executive governor of Kogi State in the last seven years might have endeared the Kogi Built Environment And Building Materials, Lokoja, to consider him for a well-deserved award by the organization.
The management and staff of the BEBM must be praised for recognizing him and his modest contributions to humanity.
