Gov. Bello’s vision in repositioning education sector remains unmatched – Hon. Wemi Jones


 

The Gov. Yahaya Bello’s vision in the repositioning of the education sector of Kogi State has been described as unmatched in the State’s history.

 

The Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones made the disclosure when he received in audience the Proprietor, Gloryland Polytechnic,
Ankpa, who was in his office to present to the Commissioner the
approval letter from the National Board For Technical Education for the establishment of Gloryland Polytechnic, Ankpa, Kogi State.

 

Hon. Jones expressed happiness with the approval by NBTE, expressed optimism that good things are coming out of Ankpa to complement the efforts of Gov. Bello in repositioning the education sector of the State.

Hon. Jones disclosed that the present administration in the State has made neck breaking records in the education sector much more than previous administrations, listed the Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara, improvement in all the tertiary institutions infrastructure and accreditation of courses, building of GYB Model Science Secondary Schools and other several achievements as unmatched in the State’s history.

The Commissioner further maintained that the budgetary provision for education by the State Government, which has surpassed the UNESCO benchmark, has made the State a positive reference.

While maintaining that Gov. Bello’s passion to reposition the education sector is legacy for the coming generation, explained that aside the immediate gains seen today, the State and generation yet unborn stand to enjoy the benefit in the future.

The Commissioner expressed happiness that following the overwhelming support the present administration has made to the education sector, the state’s rating in external examination as well as in extracurricular activities has placed the State top in the country.

 

The Commissioner described Ankpa that used to be a bedrock for illegal colleges of education has made giant strides in the approval by NBTE, thanked Gov. Bello for giving freedom the Education Ministry the free hands in driving the vision Gov. Bello has for education.

Hon. Jones congratulated the Proprietor of the Gloryland Polytechnic, for the approval, praised her for crossing the first hurdles, urged her to make excellence, just like Gov. Bello, her watchwords.

 

 

In her remarks, the Proprietor who expressed appreciation with the support and enabling environment created by the State Government which made the approval possible, assured that the Polytechnic would live up to its billings in academic excellence.

The letter from the NBTE reads:

I refer to the application and subsequent approval /resources inspection visit to Gloryland Polytechmec, Ankpa, Kog State.

I hereby convey the approval of the Honourable Minister of Education to establish the institution in line with the provision of Act CAP E3 LFN 2004 with effect from, 7 November, 2022.

The Board has also approved interim accreditation for the following academic programmes and number of streams for take-off of the insutution:

1. ND Computer Science (1 stream of 40 students only)

2. ND Statistics (1 stream of 40 students only)

3. ND Accountancy (1 stream of 60 students only)

4. ND Business Administration & Management (1 stream of 60 students only)

5. ND Computer Engineering Technology (stream of 40 students only)

6. ND Electrical /Electronic Engineering Technology (Regular students 1 stream of 40 students’ non-Regular students » stream of 20 students stream of 40 students only}

The approval is subject to you admitting not more than the above approved number of streams indicated above and strict compliance to the regulations and government polices as it affects Private Polytechnic institutions.

Admission of students into the approved programmes should commence from the 2022 / 2023 session, otherwise the approval to commence the programmes lapses.

Thereafter, the admission can only be allowed to take place after a fresh resource inspection visitation has been carried out at the instance of the institution.

The approved programmes will be due for initial accreditation when the first set of the students are in the third or fourth semester of study.
