I met Erelu Yemisi on Facebook sometimes around 2018 or thereabout, but our first meeting was in April 2019 when I visited Abuja. I called to inform her that I was in town and she demanded that we see. She kept calling during this period until we finally met.
When I first saw her, I was struck by her simplicity. I saw humility. I’ve met quite a lot of people who have wowed me with their intelligence but it’s the humble ones that have inspired me! Yemisi is humble to a fault. That was our first and only meeting, but we stayed in touch via phone until we met again earlier this year.
When I heard that Yemisi Oshaloto had picked up the APC nomination form to represent Yagba West local government at the state house of assembly, I was relieved that capable hands, unlike in the past, were showing interest in the position. Yemisi has been a wonderful friend because she does not treat me as if she is my elder. There’s almost nothing I can’t talk about with her. Her humility is unparalleled. Humility is, indeed, the foundation of all virtue.
During the build up to the APC primary elections, there were several “mountains” to be conquered. In fact, she had some difficult obstacles to overcome. I was worried about her. I was concerned. I kept wondering how she was going to get through it all. However, when I discussed it with her she was not petrified. That is bravery! “Don’t worry, Olumide, I will not abandon this journey because of a few individuals who represent less than 0.000001 percent of the local government,” she told me. My spirit was lifted as a result of her bravery.When you talk about courage and boldness, she is a woman that lacks neither of these qualities, and these are some of the attributes that a leader must possess. You need these two qualities more than others if you are to succeed as a legislator in Nigeria.
Yemisi is not avaricious; she is content with whatever she has and has never shown any sign of greed in any aspect of her life since I have known her. We need someone who possesses all of these characteristics to serve as our representative.
Yemisi cannot be silenced. I believe she will be outspoken and an effective representative for us in Yagba West local government.
I plead with all the sons and daughters of Yagba West local government to support Oshaloto Yemisi. She will do us proud!
