.. charge the People to work for unity, socio-economic development of Oworoland
The Oworo people in Lokoja LGA of Kogi State, have been tasked to work towards regaining its lost Glory in the socio-economic development of the country.
Elder Timothy. S. Orungbemi, Chairman, Board of Trustees, Oworo Foundation made the remarks at the Oworo Foundation First Oworo National Colloquium with the theme: Reawakening Oworoland: The Imperatives for socio- cultural, Political and economic empowerment.
The Chairman who lamented that Oworo land which used to be the nerve centre of education in the past in Kogi LGA, has now been relegated to the background, urged the sons and daughters of Oworo land to rise from their slumber.
The Chairman urged the people of Oworo land to strive to sustain its relevance, urging them to use the colloquium to produce other local colloquium that would educate the people of the area on the issues of politics and Education.
He urged the Oworo people to use the Colloquium to deliberate on issues that affect the culture, Politics and economy, towards achieving a reawakening and on issues that unite the growth of Oworoland.
Introducing the Oworo Foundation, Kolade Umoru, lamented that despite the rich abundance of Natural and human resources, the area seem to have lost its voice in the socio-economic development of the country.
Mr. Umoru described Oworo land as an area with a rich array of eminent sons who have made their marks in their choosen endeavors, said the time is now for the area to take its rightful place, insisting that enough is enough for the area to be relegated in the National scheme of things.
Mr. Umoru revealed that efforts is on to produce a comprehensive history of Oworoland and for the area to have a common identity in way of dressing amongst several others towards hastening the development of Oworo people to regain her lost glory.
In a remarks, HRH. Alhaji Muhammed.A. Bairohin, the Olu of Oworoland and Chairman of Oworo Traditional Ruler, said the need to reawaken the leading position of Oworo people in education need to be made a priority.
The Traditional Ruler urged the foundation to spread its tentacles across the Oworoland, said the need to look inwards to tap from the potentials of all well meaning sons and daughters of the area remains now.
In a goodwill message, the Okun Development Association, represented by Ayo Abereron, urged the Oworo people to strive to secure their communities against Fulani invasion, engage the Dangote Cement on Empowerment and issues of health of the people, urged the Oworo people to change the narrative by having a mindset of development, and freedom from things of underdevelopment.
The Colloquium witnessed paper presentation on socio-economic of Oworoland by Alhaji Hammid Taju, Education/Human Capacity Development by Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar.
Other paper presentation centred on: Politics and Youth Development by Barr. Hassan Aliyu.
