The South South Support Group for Gov Yahaya Bello presidential ambition has reacted to the comment made by the former Governor of Borno State, Kashim Shetima that the presidency must be zoned to the South
The former Governor of Borno State on Friday at a book launch said after eight years of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure as president of Nigeria, the South should be supported to produce his successor.
Reacting to this, the South South Support group said it is wrong and condemnable for a democratically elected Governor for eight years, whom zoning was not considered before he was elected and served and Governor, to be well informed that zoning is unconstitutional. He said In 2015, there was no zoning; many aspirants contested. In 2019 there was no zoning, aspirants in APC were not courageous enough to contest with President Muhammadu Buhari, but it was open for anyone to contest.
The Leader of the group said what Nigeria should focus on is competency and jettison the idea of zoning that has failed. His words; ” We the people of South South, most importantly the youths who have been marginalized, robbed and dumped for years has come up to say NO to any political arrangement under the guise of zoning. It is unconstitutional. Nigeria’s political leadership since 1999 has been rotated between the southern and northern parts of the country, and this unwritten arrangement has added little or effect to our leadership equation, rather, other regions are disenfranchised. Our major concern should be competency. Any Nigerian has the right to contest”.
He therefore call on all well meaning Nigerians to rally round the presidential ambition of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State, saying this is a movement that will make history for a better Nigeria.
