–Says more elective positions for women Solution to nation’s woes
In her quest for massive women participation in politics and also equipping them with the required skills,A milestone was attained by the Integrated Women and youth empowerment center ,as the center organized a capacity building workshop recently,for women in leadership and politics, the Nigerianpost has learnt.
The workshops was held at the National center for women Development federal capital Territory (FCT)Abuja,and was attended by some prominent women across the country.
Speaking at the event, a former presidential aspirant on the platform of the peoples Democratic party and also a special adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on ethics and privilege Dr Sarah Jibrin, lamented the inability of the Nigerian women to find herself in the nation’s corridors of power,she called for massive mobilization of the women across the country to brace up in the next political dispensation come 2023 to see women occupying more elective positions, saying that the Nigerian women can no longer play the second Fidel in the scheme of things as it relates to the nation’s leadership,adding that the way to achieve this is for the women to form a national movement.
Also speaking,the special adviser Technical to the Honourable minister for women affairs, Hon,Jumai Idonuje , calls for conscientious awakening amongst the women across the country, she lamented that it’s quite unfortunate that the only recognizable role the women were known for is to mobilise their fellow women during elections and after the so called election the women becomes useless,adding that the women deserves more than what they have gotten over the years,she urged them to start mobilizing themselves ahead of 2023 to see them occupying more elective positions from local government to the federal level.
The founder and Chief Executive of the integrated women and youth empowerment center, Dr Mrs Esther mangzha, said that the workshop was necessitated by the deaths of leadership skills and abilities she observed and identified in the rural areas amongst women particularly in the rural areas, her experience as one of the front line workers in the insurgency ravaged northeast of the country gave her a better understanding of the high level of illiteracy and ignorance bedeviling the women in such areas and the need for awareness and sensitization informed the workshop, she stressed.
She added that the workshop was specifically organized for Borno state women, but would soon be Extended to the entire northeast,particularly areas ravaged by insurgency.
According to the founder and chief Executive, the Integrated women and youth empowerment center has her offices in Abuja,Nasarawa state and miner Niger state,saying that the Organization is national in scope because of the peculiarities of the challenges faced by the entire Nigerian women.
She further buttressed that the workshop was intended to arose awareness among women to see the need to liberate herself from marginalization they’d suffered over the years in the hands of the male counterpart. The organization since two decades of it establishment, has empowered many women and youth to become self reliant and independent economically through financial empowerment and skills acquisitions and that the organization has partnered some agencies to achieve it goals.
