Kogi State Commissioners for Information and Communications, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo; Education Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones; and Kabba/Bunu Local Government Chairman, Hon. Moses Olorunleke on Saturday inspected the extent of the burnt Government Secondary School, IIuke (GSS, Iluke).
During the inspection, the government representatives condemned the incidence, re-assured of quick intervention to rehabilitate and put the school back to shape.
Speaking with Newsmen, Hon. Wemi Jones said the cause of the fire is yet unknown as investigation is still ongoing.
He pointed out that following the calls he received and video evidence of the burning down of GSS ILUKE, he immidiately constituted two committees from STETCOM and the Ministry of Education.
While he pointed out that investigation is ongoing, however said preliminary investigation is not indicative of burning by Herdsmen, urged for calm as the investigation is still ongoing.
The Government officials pointed out the need for extensive management of the school, adding that it is evident that the inferno was caused by bush burning which affected the school as a result of unkept dry bush within the school premises.
In their different speeches they assured that Governor Yahaya Bello whose Education is first on the thematic Area of his administration has directed with immediate effect the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the school.
They added that the incidence also bothers on insecurity, which is another priority area of Yahaya Bello’s administration, assured that the root of the incidence will be gotten to and culprits will be brought to book.
The government representatives urged the public not to unnecessarily cause ethnic war in Kogi State by the unconfirmed insinuation and unreliable rumour that Fulani Herdsmen placed the school on fire.
They appreciated the community for coming around to put off the fire and not allowing excessive damage.
The regent of Iluke Community represented by Mr. Obayomi and other Chiefs of the town said the fake news that Fulani Herdsmen are responsible for the burning didn’t come from them.
He Commended the State Government approach to the incidence, described it as rare, and most appreciated, adding that the community look forward to quick rehabilitation of the school.
The Community also pleaded with the government to take advantage of the school’s massive facility by converting it to a higher Institution instead of leaving it as a Secondary School.
