November 18, 2020

The Members of the Implementation Committee for the take-off of the new Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), on Tuesday expressed satisfaction with the facilities on ground at the university’s main campus in Osara.

It would be recalled that Dr Usman Ogbo, acting Rector, Kogi State Polytechnic, had on Monday officially handed over its Osara Campus for the take-off of academic activities at the new CUSTECH.

Prof. Salawu Sadiku, spoke to newsmen on behalf of the visiting members of the implementation committee shortly after an assessment tour of the facilities on ground at the Osara Campus, Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Sadiku said that the committee members had ‘fantastic impression’ in terms of the facilities on ground at the campus for the take-off of the university.

”We have a fantastic impression because most of us never even knew at the beginning that we had that level of readiness for the university to takeoff in terms of availability of facilities.

”So, our impression is quite good and high”, Sadiku said.

He, however noted that some challenges were noticed, and one of them was the issue of how to accommodate the Kogi Polytechnic students who were already on ground at the campus.

”Hence, we came to Itakpe campus of Kogi Polytechnic to discus with the Dean of School of Engineering, with a view to possibly providing us short term measures for accommodating those students while a permanent place of abode will be prepared for them”, Sadiku said.

The university don further emphasised the commitment of the implementation committee to admitting students at CUSTECH as soon as possible.

Also speaking, the Kogi Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Hon. Wemi Jones, FCIB, assured that CUSTECH would kickoff within the shortest possible time not just for administrative purposes but also for academic activities.

”We were here on Monday with a team from the ministry and also a team from Kogi Polytechnic led by the acting Rector, Dr Usman Ogbo, for handing over of Osara campus.

”Today, we are here again with subcommittee members under the implementation committee, and we are very comfortable that we are good to go.

”I can confirm to you that within the shortest possible time, CUSTECH will kickoff not just for administrative purposes but also for academic activities”, the commissioner said.

Others present at the assessment tour were: The Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Pastor Emmanuel Idenyi, Director Science and Technology, Mr Dipo Aiyenibe and Mrs Clara Bolu, the Director, Tertiary and Continued Education.
