2027: Lokoja APC Leaders Endorse Ododo for Second Term, Say Power Rotation Must Not Deny Governor Constitutional Right

Lokoja Local Government stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by former Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umar Ahmed Imam, have endorsed Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for a second term in office.
Rt. Hon. Imam announced the endorsement on Saturday, 24th October, 2026 at a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja.
Addressing journalists, the former Speaker who is also the Leader of APC in Lokoja Local Government, said the decision was reached after a critical review of the recent Summit on Power Rotation held at the Galaxy Event Centre, Lokoja.
He recalled that the summit brought together critical stakeholders across tribal, sectional, age, gender and political divides to discuss power rotation among the three senatorial districts of Kogi Central, Kogi East and Kogi West.
According to him, while participants at the summit agreed that power rotation is a healthy consensus necessary for peace, equity and fair play, Lokoja stakeholders resolved that such principle should not be used to truncate the constitutional right of the incumbent Governor.
He said:
“We participated in the entire process of the Summit and came back to review it. We agree that power rotation is healthy and well-accepted and we key into it for peace and harmony. We also commend the proponents that this is the right time to discuss it.
“However, following political trends in Kogi State and Nigeria at large and in line with constitutional provisions, power rotation should not become a tool to deprive the incumbent Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, the right to fulfill his constitutional right for another term.”
Rt. Hon. Imam argued that it would be curious to subject Governor Ododo’s re-election to unwarranted debate when Councillors, Local Government Chairmen, State Assembly members, National Assembly members and indeed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are all seeking re-election.
He therefore declared the total support of Lokoja critical stakeholders for the re-election of Governor Ododo come November 2027.
“We in Lokoja extend our support, solidarity and commitment to the re-election of His Excellency, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo. We call on all people of means and goodwill throughout Kogi State to join hands with us to achieve this,” he said.
The former Speaker added that the Governor’s re-election would not only sustain the peace currently enjoyed in the state but also enable him to continue and improve on his developmental strides.
He urged stakeholders present to go beyond paper endorsement and work assiduously at the grassroots to ensure Ododo’s victory in 2027.
