Gov. Ododo Moves To End Lokoja Water Crisis, Hands Over Greater Lokoja Water Works To Contractor For Rehabilitation

The Kogi State Government has handed over the Greater Lokoja Water Works to Messrs Gamji Nigeria Company Limited for emergency electromechanical rehabilitation and revitalisation.

The handover ceremony was performed on Monday at the Greater Lokoja Water Works by the Commissioner for Water Resources, Engr. Yahaya MD Farouk.

Speaking before the handover, Engr. Farouk disclosed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo recently approved the emergency repair works and awarded the contract to Gamji Nigeria Company Limited, which he described as a reputable indigenous company with a proven track record in the rehabilitation of major water facilities across the country.
The Commissioner charged the company to work within the four-month timeline to restore potable water supply to the Lokoja metropolis.
“Gov. Ododo is a perpetual promise keeper who is concerned about the well-being of the people in the provision of potable water. Today is remarkable. We cannot express our joy at the commencement of work at the Greater Lokoja Water Works. The people have been patient, and Gov. Ododo has, in no small measure, shown commitment,” Farouk said.
He called on the management of the facility to give maximum cooperation to the contractor to ensure seamless execution.
“The four-month completion period is 24th February, 2027. We look forward to having the high-lift station up by midnight of the 24th, to enable us to test-run and pump water to Ganaja and Tank A,” he added.
In his response, the representative of Gamji Nigeria Company Limited, Engr. Michael Oko, thanked the state government for finding the company worthy of the contract and assured that the firm would deliver within the stipulated time frame to restore potable water to residents of the metropolis.
In their separate remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources, Alhassan Omakoji and the General Manager of the Kogi State Water Board, Engr. Lawal Momohjimoh, described the handover as a dream come true and lauded the Ododo administration for making the well-being of the people its cardinal focus.
