Kogi LGA Stakeholders Back Rotation To Kogi West In 2031, Endorse Tinubu, Ododo For Second Term

Stakeholders of Kogi Local Government Area (Koton-Karfe) have declared support for power rotation to Kogi West in 2031 and endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for a second term in office.

The position was made known on Sunday, 11th October, 2026, during a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre, Lokoja, where the group said its decision followed extensive deliberations on the future of Kogi State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, the group spokesperson, Sen Ado Shaibu, said elders, political leaders, youths and women from the 11 wards in Kogi LGA unanimously agreed that equity, fairness and peace must guide the rotation debate.
Sen. Ado recalled that Kogi East had held power for over 18 years, while Kogi Central held sway for eight years from 2016 to 2023 and is currently in its second phase, stressing that for justice and balance, power should naturally move to Kogi West after Kogi Central completes its 16-year cycle.
He noted that the Constitution guarantees a governor the right to seek two terms of four years each, adding that interrupting a performing administration in the name of rotation would be unjust.
On the performance of the federal government, the stakeholders commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal which has boosted allocations to the Federation Account, unification of the foreign exchange market, massive road infrastructure with over 89 federal roads under rehabilitation and over 3,000 kilometres of new roads under construction, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway.
He listed other achievements to include improvement in power generation from 4,000MW to 6,000MW, introduction of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), skills acquisition programmes, and revitalization of over 1,000 primary healthcare centres nationwide.
The group also passed an absolute vote of confidence on Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, describing him as a governor for all Kogites.
According to Sen. Ado, in less than three years, Governor Ododo has consolidated security, ensured 100 percent payment of salaries, sustained infrastructural projects across the three senatorial districts, and embarked on landmark projects such as the construction of a cargo international airport, establishment of an industrial park, positioning of Kogi as an export free zone and construction of a new modern market, while maintaining religious and ethnic harmony.
“Equity demands that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo be allowed to complete another four years from 2027 to 2031 to consolidate on the foundation laid by former Governor Yahaya Bello and his people-oriented projects,” Dr. Mona said.
On the 2027 governorship, the stakeholders clarified that the Kogi West agenda is 2031 and not 2027.
Sen. Ado stated that as a core part of Kogi West, Kogi LGA believes the interest of the district will be better served by supporting Governor Ododo to complete his tenure so that in 2031, power will naturally shift to Kogi West with the full backing of Kogi Central and Kogi East.
He warned that any attempt to disrupt Governor Ododo’s second term bid now would jeopardize the chances of Kogi West in 2031.
The stakeholders therefore endorsed President Tinubu and Governor Ododo for second term and called on the people of Kogi Central and Kogi East to join what they described as a progressive power shift movement to Kogi West in 2031.
They also announced that all political structures across the 11 wards of Kogi LGA have been directed to commence mobilization for the actualization of the agenda.
