KOGI LG POLLS: CPP Tasks KOSIEC On Credibility, Seeks Level Playing Field, Real-Time Transmission Of Results
As Kogi State prepares for the Local Government election slated for 17th October, 2026, the Coalition of Political Parties (CPP) in Kogi State has appealed to the Kogi State Independent Electoral Commission (KOSIEC) to uphold electoral sanctity by ensuring equal rights, a level playing ground and fair opportunity for all political parties to contest.
In a statement issued after its emergency meeting in Lokoja, the Coalition said the forthcoming election must mark a departure from past practices.
The Coalition called on the leadership of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Kogi State to work for the collective interest of all political parties. While expressing concern over actions that could undermine understanding among parties genuinely prepared to contest the election, the Coalition noted that IPAC remains an umbrella body for all parties and should continue to promote unity and inclusiveness.
“We appeal to the IPAC Chairman to avoid actions capable of undermining the unity and preparation of political parties. IPAC is meant to be a platform for collective engagement, not division,” the statement said.
The Coalition also appealed to KOSIEC to strengthen public confidence by embracing transparency in result collation and declaration. The CPP noted that political parties are now more vigilant and committed to openness, and will deploy agents, observers and media representatives to polling units and collation centres while transmitting results in real time.
“We are hopeful that this election will reflect the true will of the people. Transparency and real-time disclosure of results will deepen trust in the process,” the Coalition stated.
The Coalition said it attaches great importance to the Local Government election because the majority of the people live in rural communities. According to the statement, governance should be felt more at the grassroots through rural roads, schools, healthcare facilities, electricity and other basic amenities that improve livelihoods.
The CPP therefore appealed to all stakeholders, including KOSIEC, political parties and security agencies, to work together for a free, fair, credible and transparent election that respects the will of the people.
The Coalition urged KOSIEC to demonstrate clarity, neutrality and transparency in all processes before, during and after the election.
“The KOSIEC Chairman has an opportunity to earn the trust and respect of Kogites. His conduct will be central to the credibility of this election. Kogi people are watching and Nigeria is watching,” the statement concluded.
