The Publisher of The Nigerian Post Newspaper, Abu Micheal, has described the death of former Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, CON, Jakadan Sokoto, as painful, shocking and a monumental loss to the media industry and Kogi State at large.
In a condolence message issued in Lokoja on Sunday, the Publisher said the Board, Management and Staff of The Nigerian Post Newspaper received with deep grief the news of the demise of the former governor who passed away in London in the early hours of today, 20th September, 2026.
He described Alhaji Ibrahim Idris as a pillar of support who helped build The Nigerian Post Newspaper to become the envy of other newspapers in Kogi State and beyond, noting that his immense contributions, encouragement and fatherly support during the formative years of the newspaper will forever remain indelible.
“His Excellency, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris was not just a former governor, he was a pillar, a benefactor and a great builder of modern Kogi State. He believed in the power of the press and he supported The Nigerian Post with uncommon generosity, ensuring that the newspaper survived and became a strong voice for truth, democracy and good governance. We have lost a pillar, and we will greatly miss him,” the Publisher stated.
The Publisher further described the late Jakadan Sokoto as a humane, detribalised and God-fearing leader whose nine-year administration from 2003 to 2012 laid the solid foundation for peace, unity, infrastructural development and human capital development in Kogi State.
He specifically commiserated with Alhaji Abubakar Ibrahim Idris, Hajia Aisha Ibrahim Idris, her Children and all the children and family members that the builder of modern Kogi State left behind, as well as the Government and people of Kogi State and the entire Ibro family.
The Publisher prayed Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the late former governor, grant him Aljanatul Firdaus and grant his family, loved ones and the entire people of Kogi State the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss.
“May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace. His legacy as a builder of people, institutions and a modern Kogi State will never be forgotten,” he added.
