The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kogi State, Hon. Mohammed Sanni Gambo, has pledged to sustain efforts at uniting the party in the Eastern Senatorial District, stressing that the Igala and Bassa people remain one indivisible political family.
Hon. Gambo made the declaration on Saturday during a strategic meeting with PDP candidates from Kogi East Senatorial District held in Lokoja.
He said his immediate priority is to ensure that all PDP candidates from the area emerge victorious in the 2027 general elections. According to him, the meeting was convened to review the challenges facing the party in the zone and to proffer practical solutions that will guarantee an overwhelming win for the PDP in 2027.
“We must go into 2027 as one united house. The Igala and Bassa people have a common destiny, and the PDP in Kogi East must reflect that unity in purpose and action,” the Chairman said. “My leadership is poised for a united party, and I will not allow anything that breeds disunity to thrive.”
Hon. Gambo cautioned party members against acts of indiscipline and attempts to undermine the authority of the party. He warned that insubordination would not be tolerated, noting that such conduct amounts to disrespect for the office of the Chairman and the structures of the party.
He described the forthcoming elections in Kogi State, particularly in Kogi East, as winnable for the PDP, but insisted that victory can only be achieved through collective collaboration and strict adherence to party discipline.
The meeting deliberated extensively on the way forward for the party in the zone. Top on the agenda were strategies to strengthen grassroots structures, ensure equitable representation for Igala and Bassa people, and mobilize voters across all 9 LGAs in Kogi East.
Speaking on the issue of ward creation and representation, the Chairman explained that fairness for the Igala/Bassa people can only be achieved in an atmosphere of unity and mutual respect. He urged leaders to avoid actions that could create division within the party.
On campaign preparations, Hon. Gambo called for an inclusive process in the constitution of campaign councils by candidates. He said the party, critical stakeholders, leaders, and members at ward, LGA and state levels must be carried along to ensure broad ownership and success.
Party Candidates at the meeting expressed optimism that with unity and discipline, the PDP will reclaim its dominance in Kogi East in 2027.
The Chairman concluded by urging all members to shun divisive tendencies and work together to reposition the PDP as the credible alternative for the people of Kogi State.
