Takete-Ide unveils date for centenary festival

Takete-Ide, a quiet suburban community in Amuro District of MopAmuro Local Government Area, LGA, Kogi State, is set to hold a grand centenary celebration and development fund raising ceremony. The three-day event tagged ‘a century of heritage, a future of greater glory’ has been fixed to hold from Thursday, 29th to Saturday, 31 October.

The National President of the appex socio-cultural Group in the Community, the Takete-Ide Progressive Union, TIPU, Prince Richard Dare Fiki, and Chairman Central Planning Committee, CPC, Hon. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, in a joint statement, said the centenary is a major component of the annual Takete-Ide Day Festival and community development fundraising.

According to the duo, the feast will feature a free medical outreach, novelty match, an education summit, and seminar on drug abuse. Other events lined up are historical exhibitions, a culinary excursion to the kitchen of the ancients, fundrausing, cultural displays, and other entertainments.

Described as “a nostalgic throwback to the days of our ancestors and a window to peap into the future of a greater glory,” the festival is expected to witness the public presentation of a comprehensive volume on the history of the community.

While explaining the rationale behind the fiesta, the statement reads: “As a people, our history dates back hundreds of years. Our forefathers lived in different locations before they arrived at our present site. Available records show that they arrived here in 1926 circa. Yes, as a people, we are centuries old. In our current space, we are 100 years old.

“When we look at our journey in the last century against a history of wars and perennial migration endured by our forefathers, we celebrate the peace God has given us today. Beyond the eating and wineing, we will also use the festival to call the attention of stakeholders in both public and private sectors to our infrastructure needs and raise funds for community development.”

The Olude of Takete-Ide, Oba Philip Ebilakun, and his entire traditional Council of Chiefs are said to be mobilizing forces for a hitchfree ceremony.

The statement calls on all sons and daughters of the community, with their friends at home and abroad to join hands for the success of the ceremony, adding that government officials and other invited guests have confirmed their intention to associate with community during the festival.
