Ebonyi LG Polls: Governor Nwifuru Expresses Confidence On APC Victory, Lauds Peaceful Conduct

By Emmanuel Agbo, Abakaliki
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would record landslide victory in the chairmanship and councillorship elections in the State and commended voters for the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
The Governor disclosed this shortly after casting his ballot at Edupfu Okemini polling unit 002, Enyanwigwe ward in Izzi Local Government Area of the State.
Nwifuru described the election as a democratic exercise rather than a contest that should breed conflict and urged voters to freely elect candidates of their choice.
According to him “The process is ongoing. It is not a war; it is an election. There is nothing special about it other than allowing people to select the candidates of their choice. Our party did that, and I believe other political parties also did the same,” he said.
He also said the presence of opposition parties was important to the democratic process, stressing that political opponents could help government identify its weaknesses and areas requiring improvement.
“When you have opponents, it is not only about competition. They can also show you things you don’t know. Sometimes, you need opponents because they can expose your shortcomings and areas where you need to improve.
On the likely outcome of the election, the governor said he remained committed to the APC and its candidates, expressing hope that the party would emerge victorious across the state.
“Whether or not our party will win the election, my wish is for our party to win. I am a party man, and I believe in my party and all its candidates,”
However, at all other polling units visited by our correspondent, the exercise was generally peaceful, and at the time of filing this report, collation of results was ongoing.
