Kogi NIPR Strengthens Professional Development, Membership Drive at Maiden General Meeting
The Kogi State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening professional practice, promoting ethical standards, expanding membership and deepening engagement with key stakeholders across the state.
The commitment was reaffirmed during the Chapter’s maiden General Meeting held in Lokoja, where members reviewed progress since the inauguration of the current leadership and discussed programmes for the coming months.
In his welcome remarks, the Chapter Chairman, Hon. Ismaila Isah, appreciated the elders and senior members of the Institute for their guidance and support. He commended members for the progress recorded through the ongoing advocacy visits, noting that the engagements had strengthened relationships with institutions and promoted the value of professional public Relations practice.
The Chairman also called for a sustained membership drive, regular payment of subscriptions and greater participation in Chapter activities. He encouraged eligible Public Relations practitioners and communication professionals yet to register with the Institute to take advantage of the available membership opportunities.
A major highlight of the meeting was a professional development lecture titled “Imperatives of Becoming a Member of the NIPR,” delivered by the Chairman. The lecture highlighted the importance of professional registration, ethical practice, continuous development and professional certification in building credibility and protecting the integrity of the profession.
The presentation generated robust contributions from members, including Dr. Tairu Momoh, Mr. Yabagi Mohammed and Mrs. Opeyemi Ologun, who shared perspectives on professional membership, capacity development and the future of Public Relations practice in Nigeria.
A senior member of the Chapter, Elder Emmanuel Bola Boro, also shared his wealth of experience and advised members on the importance of unity, professionalism, institutional loyalty and continuity. Elder Boro encouraged members to support the leadership and uphold the values of the Institute.
The Vice Chairman, Mr. Tade Oshaloto, emphasised the importance of professional registration and compliance with the regulatory requirements governing Public Relations practice in Nigeria. He encouraged students and practising professionals to familiarise themselves with the provisions of the NIPR Act and ensure proper registration.
As part of efforts to strengthen administration and broaden members’ participation, six standing committees were inaugurated:
1. Professional Development Committee
2. Welfare Committee
3. Ethics and Disciplinary Committee
4. Business/Project Development Committee
5. Stakeholder Relations Committee
6. NIPR Act Monitoring and Compliance Committee
The committees are expected to support the Chapter leadership and provide platforms for members to contribute their expertise to the growth of the Institute.
The meeting also featured a sensitisation session on the forthcoming World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), with members briefed on opportunities for networking, knowledge sharing, professional development and exposure to emerging trends in public relations.
The Chapter leadership encouraged members to participate actively in the global forum and leverage the platform to connect with practitioners and communication professionals from around the world.
The Kogi State NIPR Chapter reiterated its commitment to promoting professional excellence, strengthening stakeholder relationships, growing membership, supporting practitioners’ development and upholding the ethical standards of the profession.
The leadership appreciated members, elders, students and stakeholders who attended the meeting and contributed to the discussions, while calling for continued unity, active participation and collective ownership of the Chapter’s programmes.
