By joshua 2027 Kogi Governorship: Okun Must Unite Through Dialogue, Strategic Alignment — SSA Amodu Abubakar Backs Olumoko
The Senior Special Assistant to the Kogi State Governor on Grassroots Mobilisation, Hon. Amodu Abubakar, has thrown his weight behind the growing call by Hon. Funsho Olumoko for the people of Okunland to embrace unity, strategic engagement and inclusive dialogue as the pathway to producing the next Governor of Kogi State.
Speaking on the evolving political conversations surrounding the 2027 governorship race, Hon. Amodu maintained that the aspirations of the Okun people would only gain meaningful traction if political actors, stakeholders and the wider electorate set aside divisive tendencies and rallied around a common vision.
According to him, the governorship project is a collective responsibility that transcends personal ambitions and sectional interests, stressing that every son and daughter of Okun has a vital role to play in the struggle for equitable political representation.
He argued that achieving the long-awaited governorship for Okun would require deliberate consultation, mutual understanding and sustained political consensus, rather than unnecessary rivalry capable of weakening the district’s bargaining power.
Hon. Amodu called on traditional rulers, community leaders, religious leaders, political office holders, youth organisations and other critical stakeholders to rise above partisan considerations and take the lead in building a united political front that would strengthen Okun’s position in future negotiations.
He emphasised that no district within Okun possesses an exclusive monopoly over the governorship ambition, insisting that leadership can only emerge through broad-based alignment, fairness, understanding and collective agreement among all the constituent interests.
The governor’s aide lamented that Okun’s inability to produce the state’s chief executive over the years has largely been fuelled by internal divisions, disunity and the absence of sustained political cohesion.
“Okun has suffered political marginalisation for years, and one of the major reasons has been our inability to speak with one voice. If we truly desire the governorship, then unity, dialogue and strategic political alignment must become our guiding principles,” he said.
Addressing the growing agitation in some quarters for the Member representing Ikeja Federal Constituency in Lagos State, Hon. James Abiodun Faleke, to contest the Kogi governorship, Hon. Amodu described the advocacy as legitimate but cautioned against speculation.
He noted that Hon. Faleke has not publicly declared any interest in the governorship race, making it premature for political actors to build expectations around his candidacy.
He further observed that Hon. Faleke has established a formidable political profile in Lagos State, where his influence continues to create strategic opportunities that also benefit Kogi State and the Okun people.
According to him, leaving Lagos at this stage could diminish the strategic political advantage and wider network of influence that Okun currently enjoys through the federal lawmaker.
Hon. Amodu therefore urged political leaders and stakeholders across Kogi State to remain focused on building consensus, strengthening political cooperation and fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect capable of advancing the collective aspiration of the Okun nation.
He reaffirmed his support for Hon. Funsho Olumoko’s advocacy, insisting that only a united, organised and strategically aligned Okun can effectively compete for the governorship and secure its rightful place in Kogi State’s political leadership.
