… Orders immediate remedial interventions
The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu, has inspected the flooded sections of the Goodluck Jonathan Bypass in Calabar Municipal, few days after he did a similar on-the-spot inspection of the Calabar-Odukpani Road, and ordered the immediate repair of the failed portions of the road.
After his inspection of the flooded sections of the Jonathan Bypass, Otu, a compassionate, listening and caring governor, also ordered the immediate commencement of remedial interventions to restore access and ease the pain and hardship experienced by residents. .
A Facebook post the governor made on the flooded sections of the Jonathan Bypass reads:
“Information reached my office this morning that many residents had been unable to leave their homes due to the rising water level.
“I immediately proceeded to the Jonathan Bypass to personally assess the situation and gain a firsthand understanding of the challenges confronting our people.
“Following my inspection, I directed the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure to immediately commence remedial interventions to restore access and ease the hardship being experienced by residents.
“As a government, we remain committed to taking decisive and sustainable measures to address flooding and the persistent challenge of rising water levels across affected communities.
“The safety, wellbeing, and livelihoods of our people will always remain our highest priority.”
In another post on his Facebook page, Otu who has endeared himself into the hearts of Cross Riverians on account of his excellent performance and proactive leadership, reaffirmed his commitment to completing previously abandoned projects.
He said: “God indeed had a reason for bringing us at a time like this.
“For me, leadership has never been about attaching my name to projects. It is about picking up the broken pieces, restoring hope, and putting every public investment to work for the benefit of our people.
“That is why I have consistently maintained that we will not allow any project into which public funds have been invested to waste away simply because this administration did not initiate it.
If it serves the interest of Cross Riverians, we will complete it, restore it where necessary, and ensure it delivers value to the people.
“Not everyone may appreciate this approach today, and that is understandable.
But I am confident that when the results become evident, the wisdom behind these decisions will speak for itself.
“Our focus remains unflinching, building on every worthy foundation and leaving Cross River State better than we met it.
That is the essence of our People First commitment.”
