The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has confirmed that the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has intervened to resolve the issue concerning the disruption of power supply caused by the alleged invasion of its C2 Maitama substation.
The AEDC had in a public notice made available on Friday alleged that the invasion which triggered the power interruption was led by an official of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), and that vital cables and network infrastructure were damaged during the encroachment.
The company condemned the unfortunate situation leading to the disruption and regretted any inconvenience it may have caused its customers. It insisted that both the substation and the land on which it is located duly belong to AEDC.
However, in a follow-up statement on Saturday, the AEDC disclosed that the FCT Minister has swiftly stepped in to address and ensure a quick resolution of the issues regarding the power disruption affecting Maitama and surrounding areas.
The statement reads: “AEDC wishes to inform our valued customers and the general public that the matter concerning the invasion and encroachment on the C2 Maitama Substation has now been escalated to the highest levels of the Federal Capital Territory Administration.
“We are pleased to confirm that the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barrister Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, has been fully briefed on the situation and has personally intervened to facilitate an urgent resolution of the issues responsible for the current power disruption affecting Maitama and adjoining areas.
“AEDC is working closely with the Honourable Minister, the Federal Capital Territory Administration, security agencies and other relevant stakeholders to secure the substation, protect this critical electricity infrastructure and expedite the restoration of electricity supply.
“We commend the Honourable Minister for his swift intervention and unwavering commitment to resolving the matter. AEDC remains fully committed to restoring electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible and appreciates the patience, understanding and continued support of our customers during this challenging period.”
Efforts to reach the FCDA for comment on the AEDC’s allegations and the Minister’s intervention were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
