The Managing Director of the Edo State Waste Management Board, EWMB, Amb. Dr. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi, has called on residents to embrace proper waste disposal by making effective use of the waste bins strategically placed across the metropolis.
Amb. Enehita-Inegbenehi made the call in Benin City while advocating that proper waste disposal is a collective responsibility, which would be lot easier when residents abide by standards as they obtain globally.
He urged residents to dispose of hazardous waste in the red bins, organic waste in the black bins, while plastics, bottles, cans, and other recyclable materials should be placed in the designated metal recycling cages.
“Residents should patronise approved waste collection operators, refrain from indiscriminate waste disposal, avoid dumping refuse on road medians, and desist from handing over their waste to cart pushers. ”
According to him, such practices contribute to environmental pollution, block drainage channels, and increase the risk of flooding.
He emphasised that with the rainy season in full swing, responsible waste disposal is essential to mitigating flood risks, safeguarding public health, and maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
