Hon. Asiwaju Idris Asiru Honoured with Award of Excellence for ‘Philanthropy and Selfless Service to Humanity’

The Kogi State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. (Chief) Asiwaju Idris Asiru, FCA, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his philanthropic disposition and commitment to public service.

The award, presented under the theme Philanthropist and Selfless Service to Humanity’ was conferred by the ODODO/OYIBO Bassa Youths Grassroots Initiative, OBYGI, Kogi State Chapter. It was presented by the group’s Coordinator, Comrade Victor MD Kpanaki, in Lokoja.
Comrade Kpanaki said the award was the group’s way of appreciating leaders whose actions align with the yearnings of ordinary citizens at the grassroots.
“Hon. Asiwaju Idris has proven beyond reasonable doubt that his life is service to humanity,” the OBYGI Coordinator stated. “This recognition is for a man whose records speak for him a leader who consistently puts his people first in his dealings.”

He described the Commissioner as “a man rare to come by,” noting that Asiwaju Idris’ approach to governance reflects humility, accessibility, and a genuine concern for the welfare of Kogi people.
As Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Asiru is a key member of the Kogi State Economic Team, responsible for driving fiscal discipline, transparency, and strategic planning to support Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration.
Beyond his official duties, he is widely known for supporting education, healthcare interventions, youth empowerment, and community development initiatives across the state. Stakeholders say his interventions have touched vulnerable families, students, small business owners, and community groups who often lack access to government support
Members of OBYGI, a grassroots mobilization platform for youths in Bassa and across Kogi State, said the award was unanimously approved after a review of leaders who have made tangible impact without seeking publicity.
According to the group, honouring public officials who demonstrate selflessness will encourage more leaders to prioritize the people in policy and practice.
The presentation ended with goodwill messages from youth leaders and community stakeholders, who prayed for more wisdom and strength for the Commissioner as he continues to serve the state.
Hon. Asiwaju Idris, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, FCA, thanked OBYGI for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to using public office to improve lives and promote inclusive development in Kogi State.
