QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman Clinches ADC Kogi East Senatorial Ticket by Unanimous Affirmation

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has affirmed QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman as its Senatorial Candidate for Kogi East ahead of the forthcoming general election in a peaceful and consensual affirmation exercise.

The event, which took place in Idah, Kogi East, attracted a large turnout of delegates, party stakeholders, youth groups, women leaders, and political associates from across the senatorial district.

Prominent party leaders and stakeholders present included Hon. SS Odoma, former Commissioner for Health; Hon. Yahaya Onukpa, ADC Party Chairman; Hon. Suleiman Abonika, Kogi East Party Chairman; Hon. Zak Umar of the Igalamela Political Group; Hon. MM Ocheni, Legal Adviser of the Igalamela Political Group; Hon. David Apeh, former Commissioner; Hon. Dangadi Omakpa, former SSA to Capt. Idrisu Wada; Hon. Frida Aminu Ohimi; Hon. Adukwu Ojoko of Idah; Hon. Rufai Yahaya; Hon. Ukwubile of Ibaji; Hon. TJ Idachaba; Alhaji Isa Abdul; Hon. Hassan Abubakar, SSA to Atiku Abubakar; and Idris Haruna, ADC Chairman Ankpa, among others.

A key highlight of the exercise was the voluntary withdrawal of the only other aspirant, Hajia Habiba-Deen, who stepped down in the interest of party unity and declared her support for Suleiman. Her action was widely commended as a strong gesture of political maturity.

The Returning Officer, Captain Joe Again (Rtd), declared Suleiman duly affirmed as the party’s candidate, noting that the process reflected the collective will of the party and its readiness for the general election.

In his acceptance speech, QS Aminu Abubakar Suleiman stated that his victory at the primaries belongs to the Igala and Bassa people, describing it as a collective mandate for unity, representation, and inclusive governance.

He outlined his legislative agenda as follows:

Sponsorship and advancement of pro-people bills targeting social and economic development

Effective representation through robust constituency engagement and participatory lawmaking

Strategic lobbying for federal presence, infrastructure projects, and institutional development in Kogi East

Youth and women empowerment through legislative interventions, policy advocacy, and federal programme attraction

Strengthening education policy reforms and human capital development initiatives for the senatorial district

Advancement of constituency development frameworks to ensure equitable distribution of federal resources

He further pledged to run an inclusive and issue-based political engagement, focused on bridging ethnic, religious, and political divides across Kogi East.

The event ended in celebration, solidarity songs, and renewed commitment by stakeholders to deliver victory for the ADC in the forthcoming general election.
