Kogi West APC Primary: Ola Campaign Alleges Plot to Harass Supporters, Urges Security Action
The Campaign organisation of Ustaz Abubakar Zakari Ola, APC senatorial aspirant for Kogi West, has raised alarm over what it described as a plot to harass, intimidate and impersonate its supporters ahead of the party’s senatorial primary scheduled for Monday, 18 May 2026.
In a statewide press briefing issued on 16 May, the campaign said it had received credible intelligence indicating plans by some individuals to disrupt the primary at voting centres across Kogi West.
According to the statement, a sum of ₦30 million was allegedly made available to sponsor activities aimed at creating fear and confusion during the exercise. The campaign also alleged that sponsored individuals plan to wear face caps, vests and other materials associated with Ola’s supporters to cause disturbances at polling and collation centres and falsely implicate peaceful supporters before security agencies and party officials.
The organisation said Ola and his supporters remain committed to peaceful and issue-based participation. It called on supporters across Kogi West to remain calm, law-abiding and vigilant, and to avoid confrontation or unlawful gatherings that could be exploited to disrupt the process.
The campaign urged Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to look into the matter and ensure the primary is free, fair and peaceful for all aspirants. It also called on the Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps to investigate the allegations and ensure only genuine, properly identified personnel are deployed for election duties.
The statement commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the APC national leadership, the Kogi State government and the state party leadership for their efforts to provide a level playing field for all aspirants.
“We remain confident that the will of party members shall prevail through peaceful, transparent and credible primary elections,” the statement read.
