Zacchaeus Jonathan Hails Kolade’s Emergence as ADC Kogi West Zonal Chairman, Pledges Support for Party Sweep
The leading senatorial aspirant for Kogi West, Surv. Zacchaeus Jonathan, has congratulated Barrister Adegboyega Kolade on his election as Zonal Chairman and State Vice Chairman of the African Democratic Congress for Kogi West, describing his emergence as “well deserved” and a boost for the party’s chances in the district.
Zacchaeus, in a message issued on Sunday after the ADC State Congress held in Lokoja, urged Kolade and the newly elected Kogi West Zonal Executive Committee to “hit the ground running,” stressing that the resolve of the people in Kogi West has proven that ADC is now the “party of choice.”
“I have no doubt in my mind that your election opens up a new frontier for our party in consolidating our popularity,” Zacchaeus said.
“The people from all available records have embraced the ADC. What is however needed is leadership that motivates and allows for inclusion. Be rest assured that I will give all the necessary support that will enable you succeed.”
The senatorial aspirant described the elected zonal executive members as people of proven integrity and called on them to be transparent and credible in their decisions towards ensuring that ADC “clears all seats in the district.”
Zacchaeus added that he has a blueprint for quality representation and development, built from the yearning and aspirations of the people, and promised to offer quality representation if elected to the Senate.
Barrister Kolade was elected by consensus following wide consultations among stakeholders and delegates from Kogi West Senatorial District.
The congress drew delegates from the 21 local government areas of the state, was conducted under tight security, and monitored by party officials and other relevant agencies. Party leaders described his election as a strategic move to strengthen the ADC’s grassroots structure ahead of the party’s National Convention slated for April 14, 2026.
Speaking shortly after his election, Kolade thanked delegates for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work for the unity and growth of the party across the zone and the state.
“This mandate is a call to service. Our immediate task is to reconcile all interests, mobilize our people at the ward and local government levels, and reposition ADC as the credible alternative Kogi people deserve,” he said.
“Kogi West will lead by example. We will run an open-door administration, deepen internal democracy, and ensure that every member has a voice. As State Vice Chairman, I will also work closely with the state executive to build a formidable structure that can win elections.”
Delegates at the congress also elected other state executive members, with Hon. Tom Zakari emerging as State Chairman. The congress reaffirmed support for the Senator David Mark-led national leadership of the party and adopted resolutions on membership drive, dispute resolution, and early preparations for the forthcoming national convention.
Kolade commended the peaceful conduct of delegates and urged aggrieved members to explore internal mechanisms to resolve disputes, noting that the strength of the ADC lies in its adherence to the rule of law and party supremacy.
The Kogi State Congress forms part of nationwide congresses being held by the ADC to elect new executives at the state and zonal levels ahead of its National Convention.
