Group Stage of APWEN Girls’ Science Competition Ends Thursday in Lokoja
The group stage of the 2026 Inter-Schools Science Competition for Girls, organised by the Kogi State Chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN), will be rounded off tomorrow, Thursday, April 9, 2026, at Bishop Delisle College, Lokoja.
The competition, which began in March 2026, has already been held across all three Senatorial districts of the state. According to a statement by the Kogi APWEN Chairman, Engr. Mrs. Cecilia Attah. The Bishop Delisle College centre will host the final group stage pointing out that Lokoja was carved out as a special centre aside the three Senatorial districts.
Winners have emerged from the other senatorial districts, Engr. Attah noted, with the Lokoja centre expected to produce the last set of qualifiers to complete the group phase.
The grand finale will be held after winners emerge from the Bishop Delisle College centre, the statement added. It is scheduled to take place during the 2026 APWEN Week between June and July this year.
Explaining the rationale for the contest, the State APWEN Chairman, said the Inter-School Science Competition for Girls is designed to tackle barriers, build confidence and skills, and improve long-term representation of women in STEM.
“In the Nigerian context specifically, the competition helps counter cultural messaging, early marriage pressures, and classroom dynamics where boys dominate lab equipment,” the statement added.
