Abuja-Lokoja Road Gridlock: KOCCIMA Urges Immediate Action, Makes Far Reaching Recommendations
The Kogi Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture has sounded the alarm on the crippling logjam between Banda and Nataco, stretching up to 7 kilometers and leaving travelers stranded for days.
In a press release signed by the Director General of the Chamber, Enejoh Samuel, the Chamber’s leadership is calling on the government to take urgent action to address the issue, citing severe economic and security implications.
Furthermore the Chamber alerted the Kogi State Police Commissioner, Naziru Kankarfi to the potential dangers of the situation.
The Chamber however made some recommendations which include:
The need to regulate trailer movement, allowing trailers to transit the Abuja Lokoja road between 6pm-6am.
KOCCIMA equally suggested the construction of a temporary bypass to ease congestion, as well as expedite completion of the ongoing road construction
The Chamber emphasizes that the gridlock is severely impacting the nation’s socio-economic activities, particularly in Kogi State, urge the Federal Ministry of Works and men of the FRSC to intervene and ensure seamless traffic flow.
The situation KOCCIMA observed demands urgent attention, assuring that the Chamber is committed to working with authorities to find solutions to the regular gridlock on the Abuja Lokoja Federal Highway in view of it socio economic importance to the country.
