WHEN WILL THE CLOSED MARKETS AND MOTOR PARKS BE RE-OPEN IN KOGI WEST

WHEN WILL THE CLOSED MARKETS AND MOTOR PARKS BE RE-OPEN IN KOGI WEST

One of the greatest challenges facing nations and societies today, is the rising state of violent extremism and insecurity, also referred to as violent non-state actors, whose activities pose serious security risks to political order. Violent non-state actors are causing significant concern among national security chiefs, political leaders, government officials, civil society organizations, and people across all faiths, creeds, and religious persuasions particularly at sub-national level in Nigeria, is a worrisome development.

The Closure of some Motor parks and Markets in the western senatorial district of Kogi State could be described as preventive and proactive measures on security situations in those areas, it must be agreed that security information that is best known to the government and conventional security agencies and personnel. According to the constitution of Nigeria 1999 as (amended) the welfare and security of citizens shall be the primary responsibilities of the government, therefore, all actions of the government should reflect this constitutional provisions. The continuous closure of these business places is also affecting the economic development and welfare of the citizens those areas, the locations of these markets and motor parks have direct bearing on the local populace that transact businesses on daily and periodic bases, as they are located in the rural areas that rely more on the agricultural activities.

We, therefore, call on the Kogi state Government as a matter of urgency to review these policies of markets and Motor parks closure, as to help the rural communities affected by this policy, as we gradually move towards the raining season, that will enhance their agricultural activities.
