Kogi State Poised to Become Top Melon Producer – AFAN Chairman
The Kogi State Chairman of the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Alhaji Salihu Adobanyi Momoh, has revealed that the state has the potential to become a leading melon producer.
He made this statement when the Melon Growers Association of Nigeria formally joined AFAN in the State.
Momoh praised the administration of Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo for prioritizing agriculture, expressed optimism that the visit by the Melon Growers Association will yield fruitful results.
He described the visit as timely, citing the government’s support for farmers, including the distribution of free seedlings and tractors.
The AFAN Chairman believes that with government support, Kogi State can produce melon for local consumption and export.
He commended the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security for his efforts in realizing the objectives of Gov. Ododo’s administration in the Agriculture Sector.
The AFAN Chairman expressed optimism that the intervention support that would be enjoyed by the Kogi State Chapter of the Melon Growers Association of Nigeria for joining AFAN will be made realizable.
The Melon Growers Association Chairman, Alhaji Suleiman Salawu, solicited support from the State AFAN Chairman and Gov. Ododo to enable them to farm melon on a large scale for export.
The Melon Growers Association Chairman, called on more persons to show and take interest in the farming of Melon, pointing out that Melon is in massive demand outside the country, but lamented that the demand is not met.
The Melon Growers Association Chairman said they were in the office of the AFAN Chairman to formerly introduce the Melon Growers Association, as well as make the public know about the nutritious and commercial value of melon, adding that it is very important for cooking, oil production, serves many other purposes.
He highlighted the nutritional and commercial value of melon, which he disclosed is in high demand globally.
