SSANU President Calls for Varsity Workers to be Highest Paid.
…. Warns FG Against Divide-and-Rule in University Workers’ Welfare Negotiations
The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has advised the Federal Government to abandon its divide-and-rule tactics in negotiating better welfare for workers in tertiary institutions.
The SSANU President made the remarks in Lokoja at the 14th Zonal Executive Council Meeting, North Central Zone, as well as the celebration of first year in office of the FUL Branch leadership.
SSANU National President, Comr. Mohammed Ibrahim, expressed disappointment at the recent unveiling of the 2025 Federal Government-ASUU Agreement, calling it a “half-measure” that would create more tension.
Ibrahim lamented that the government has historically paid lip service to university workers’ welfare, emphasizing that they deserve better remuneration, comparable to security agencies, to produce quality graduates.
He urged the government to prioritize workers’ welfare, improve hostels and clinics, and fast-track negotiations with SSANU.
The SSANU president also criticized the government’s handling of the Abuja-Lokoja Federal Highway, which has been under construction for over two decades.
He however commended Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi’s leadership at Federal University Lokoja as Vice Chancellor.
Highlights of his visit to FUL for the North Central Zonal Executive Committee Meeting was the foundation laying of SSANU Secretariat, assured that the complex when completed will ease the activities of the Union and Members.
Similarly, he presented award of excellence to the Vice Chancellor, for his outstanding contributions to academic excellence and the to SSANU.
