IFA 2025 Final: Izzi DC Defeats Nnodo 2–0 to Lift Super League Trophy In Ebonyi
Izzi Development Centre on weekend emerged champions of the 2025 Izzi Football Association (IFA) Super League after defeating Nnodo Development Centre 2–0 in a thrilling final played at Community Secondary School, Nwofe, Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Speaking at the end of the match, Governor of Ebonyi State, RT Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, congratulated the Izzi DC team for their well-deserved victory, describing the triumph as a reward for discipline, teamwork, and dedication.
The governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Richard Ugo-Idike, expressed confidence in the team’s ability to defend the title in the 2026 edition of the competition.
He also commended the Izzi Football Association (IFA) for its relentless efforts in organizing a successful tournament, pledging the state government’s continued support towards discovering and harnessing football talents among youths of the Izzi clan.
In his remarks, Chairman of the 2025/26 Local Organising Committee, Mr. George Iboko, attributed Izzi DC’s victory to hard work and consistency, noting that the team won the title for the first time since the inception of the competition.
“Two years ago, Abakaliki LGA won, and four years ago Ebonyi LGA won. I am happy it is turn by turn. Izzi DC won through hard work, not by favour,” he said, while thanking Governor Nwifuru for investing in youth development through sports.
The National President of the Izzi Football Association, His Royal Highness, Eze Boniface Ezagu, expressed gratitude to God for a hitch-free tournament and praised the governor for prioritising youth empowerment through sports.
He urged the state government and well-meaning individuals to support future competitions, including the Challenge Cup, secondary school tournaments, and girls’ football competitions.
Eze Ezagu also applauded all participating teams for their sportsmanship and encouraged Izzi DC to work hard towards defending the trophy next year.
Earlier, Chairman of the occasion, Chief Chikaodili Ojemba, commended the players and supporters for their enthusiasm and commitment, describing sports as a vital platform for youths to showcase their talents and make lasting impact in society.
He further made an undisclosed financial donation to support the players, match officials, commentators, and the Izzi Football Super League as it launches a new calendar.
At the end of the competition, Izzi DC finished first, Nnodo DC came second, Mbeke DC placed third, while Ekumenyi DC, the defending champions, finished fourth.
The prize money saw Izzi DC smile home with ₦2 million, Nnodo DC received ₦1.5 million, Mbeke DC got ₦1 million, while Ekumenyi DC received ₦500,000.
Meanwhile, the keenly contested final attracted top government officials, community leaders, and football enthusiasts from across the state, marking a colourful climax to the tournament.
