Orokere Ward Residents Demand Investigation into Alleged Rice Diversion by Party Leaders

Mopamuro (Kogi), Dec. 15, 2025

A scandal has rocked Orokere Ward 06 in Mopamuro Local Government Area of Kogi State, as residents allege that some APC leaders have diverted over 60 bags of rice donated by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo.

The 100 bags of 50kg rice were meant to help locals celebrate the Christmas season, but an investigation has revealed that only 32 bags were distributed across the eight polling units in the ward.

According to eyewitnesses, four bags of rice were allocated to each of the eight polling units, leaving over 60 bags unaccounted for.

Residents are outraged, accusing APC leaders of selfishly diverting the rice for their own gain.

“The governor provided the rice to help us celebrate Christmas, but some leaders are selfishly diverting it for their own gain,” a youth in the community said.

A female APC member echoed these sentiments, saying, “We heard the governor gave 100 bags of rice, but only 32 were shared. Where are the remaining 68 bags?

“We call on the governor to investigate and ensure our people are not shortchanged,” she said.

The people of Orokere Ward are calling on Governor Ododo to intervene and put an end to the alleged corruption.

The governor had extended the same gesture to all 239 wards across the 21 local government areas of Kogi State, making the alleged diversion a serious betrayal of trust.
