Terror Has No Religion: Senator Karimi Warns of Misrepresentation.
Sen. Sunday Steve Karimi, Representing Kogi West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, has described terrorists attacks in the country as attacks that affects all faith.
The Senator made the disclosure on a TVC Personality Program, “Your Views”, added that the attacks by those he described as enemies of Nigeria, said the attacks is not limited to a particular religion, affect both faiths as seen in the attacks of mosques in Zamfara, Katsina killing.
The Senator explained that some group of people are trying hard to malign and paint the country in bad light internationally, said security agencies are work hard to investigate and unravel them to the public.
According to Senator Karimi, ” The recent happenings across some part of the country are result of some people trying to prove a point. They travel to spread insecurity for political gain”.
“The Senate had a security summit across the six geopolitical zones that would be rounded up today. The Chief of Defense Staff told the Senate during the screening exercise in our closed door session that the security forces need hardware and equipment. He also lamented dysfunctional local governments as one of the fuels for the insecurity”.
“The CDS also emphasized that the ungoverned areas exist due to failed LG administration”. However said the Senate plans an act of parliament that is called “National Emergency and Security Act” where 5% revenue allocation is deducted from source before the sharing formula to fund security.
Still speaking, Sen. Karimi said “I have made personal investments in security infrastructure. I have built a forward operational base and handed it over to the military, and it is not from constituency project funds but personal funds. I also gave out vehicles, gunboats, bulletproof jackets, and bulletproof helmets to the security agencies from my own purse”.
“Our roads are also part of the reasons this crime thrives. We all need LG autonomy to curb sabotage, employ Youths, and develop communities”.
Senator Karimi said that the Senate is working with the security agencies to see that police and military men are posted to schools in this period, especially those that are vulnerable to attacks, adding that the deployment to soft targets have started already.
“The President has also given the order for the withdrawal of security men attached to VIPs so that we can have enough men for the operation. State police is what we have been running from, but at the end of the day, we may not have a choice than to embrace it”.
“Fortunately for us, some states have already started it, so we have to organize it and allow it to function like it has been done in other parts of the world”, Sen. Karimi disclosed.
