Kogi NUJ Begins 2025 Press week, Imam Tasks On Truth, Justice in Journalism
The Imam of Kogi State Ministry of Education Mosque, Lokoja, Ustaz Abdulganiyu Ayuba, has emphasized the crucial role of journalists in upholding truth, justice, and responsibility in their reporting.
Imam Abdulganiyu made the call during a special Juma’at service to mark the annual Kogi State Council of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) Press Week in Lokoja the kogi state Capital.
Ustaz Ayuba stressed that journalism is a trust in Islam, and journalists are entrusted with conveying accurate and verified information to the public.
He cited Islamic teachings, highlighting the importance of truthfulness, justice, and responsibility in journalism.
The Islamic cleric enjoined journalists to avoid disseminating news, content and information that have the potential to cause disaffection and crisis in the society.
The Imam urged journalists to maintain integrity, fairness, and accuracy in their reporting, avoiding false information and bias.
Ustaz Ayuba encouraged journalists to adhere to professional standards and contribute positively to public discourse.
In his remarks, a former state chairman of the Union Comrade Ali Atabor commended journalists in Kogi State for their sincerity and professionalism.
However, he noted that some electronic media organizations operating in the state need government support to perform optimally.
He urged the government to support media practitioners, particularly those in government-owned media houses.
Comrade Ibrahim Obansa Vice Chairman of the Union who spoke on behalf of the chairman of the council Alhaji Ademu Seidu emphasized the importance of responsible journalism, highlighting the constitutional role of journalists in holding public officers accountable.
He commended journalists in Kogi State for practicing responsible journalism and solicited government support for media practitioners.
Alhaji Adeiza Momohjimoh, Chairman of the Organizing Committee who is the Vice President Zone” D” of the NUJ expressed satisfaction with the planning for the press week, which included a lecture, road work, and an award-giving ceremony.
He urged journalists to adhere to professional ethics and work according to the teachings of Islam.
The event aimed to promote ethical journalism practices and the role of journalists in society.
