Start-Rite Student Leads Conversation at UNICEF “Yes! Girl Podcast” Launch

Start-Rite Schools continues to prove that education is more than textbooks and examinations, as one of its students, Kayla Bassi, took center stage at the launch of Yes! Girl Podcast, a UNICEF-backed series created by adolescent girls for adolescent girls, with support from the Government of Canada. Held on September 11, the launch offered a powerful platform for empowerment, authentic dialogue, and visible representation.

Kayla was actively involved in the preparatory phase, working with UNICEF to shape the podcast’s themes and format. At the launch, she moderated a high-profile session alongside UNICEF Champion Waje, leading conversations on self-care, confidence, health, and leadership. Her poise and clarity on such a stage underscored a larger truth: Start-Rite equips its students not just to excel academically but to lead purposefully in the world beyond school walls.

Dignitaries at the event included Her Excellency Ambassador Professor Olufolake Abdulrazaq, First Lady of Kwara State and Chairperson of the Nigeria Governors Spouses Forum; Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, Mandate Secretary of the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat; and UNICEF Nigeria Country Representative Wafaa Saeed Abdelatef. Each lent their voice to affirm the importance of creating spaces where girls can speak and be heard.

The launch of Yes! Girl Podcast marks a milestone in amplifying the voices of young girls across Nigeria and beyond. With the support of UNICEF and the Government of Canada, the series is set to inspire, educate, and challenge stereotypes by centering real stories and perspectives from girls themselves.
