62 Independence: FG Declares October 3rd Public Holiday


The 62nd anniversary of the country’s independence will be celebrated on Monday, October 3, 2022, according to the Federal Government’s proclamation.

The news was made in a statement released on Wednesday, September 28, 2022, and signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Shuaib Belgore.

In the statement, the minister congratulated Nigerians on the celebration this year and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to solving all of the country’s problems and putting smiles on everyone’s faces. She also reiterated Nigeria’s preeminent position in the community of nations and the greatness that lies ahead for the nation.

“The world is facing serious economic and security issues, which have also had an impact on our nation,” he declared. I can assure you that the government will not forsake the people and that we will continue to meet all of these issues head-on with all the power at our disposal until relief comes.

“Nigeria is without a doubt the leading black nation in the world, Africa’s pride, and a beacon of hope because of its warmth, welcoming spirit, and love, as well as because of its untapped human capital and its wealth of land. We will become the greatest nation on earth if we can unite to realize our potential.

“A nation of over 200 million people, Nigerians are flashing like diamonds in the pack, whether in academics, science and technology, business, innovation, music, entertainment, fashion, or culture. Our inherent abilities, grit, and enthusiasm gleam like the valuable diamond that we are.”

The Minister urged Nigerians to utilize the event as an opportunity to consider the problems the country is currently facing and what part they may play in solving them.

He wished Nigerians a great independence day and recalled that despite their differences in language, ethnicity, and religion, Nigeria’s founding fathers nevertheless worked together to achieve independence.

“Though our nation faces difficulties, particularly in the area of security, these difficulties are fleeting and do not define us,” he said. The diversity, power, inventiveness, and resilience of the Nigerian people define who we are.

“We’ll overcome every obstacle. There will come a moment when we will reflect back on this time and express thanks to the Most High for the turbulent seas we have navigated and the victories we have achieved over problems that seem so enormous and monstrous right now.

However, the minister advised Nigerians to abstain from all forms of violence and practice security awareness, urging them to report any suspicious individuals or activities to the local security agency.
