The dissident ‘Radio Biafra’ station that came to live after the 1993 annulled Presidential election has finally been jammed by National Broadcasting Commission NBC.
A press release issued by the Management of the NBC said the pirate station known as ‘Radio Biafra’ was jammed from it’s signals ,saying The illegal Radio station which broadcasts incendiary messages is notorious for spewing fake, inflammatory and inciting content particularly around Lagos area.’
The Management further said it contravenes some sections of the act of the NBC under the current order and dispensation.
‘The National Broadcasting Commission NBC act cap N11 laws of the federation of Nigeria ,2004 spells out in chapter 2, sub section 2,that,’
‘No person shall operate or use any premises for the transmission of sound or vision by cable, television,radio, satellite or any other medium of broadcast,from anywhere in Nigeria except under and in accordance with the provisions of this act.’
The statement further said ‘Also section 15,4,1 of the Nigeria Broadcasting code provides that, ‘
‘The police shall prosecute any persons engaged or involved in any form of broadcasting or in possession of any broadcast equipment or apparatus in the country, without a liencense or permit for the purpose.’
The Commission therefore warned the general public to desist from the illegal operation of any broadcasting station without due clearance from the regulatory body,the National Broadcasting Commission NBC,saying any form of contravention will attract prosecution of the culprits.
The Management concluded by saying,’The department of state securtiy and the Nigerian police have been requested to bring the culprits behind this Illegality to book’.
‘Radio Biafra’ was notorious at instigating certain section of Nigeria against other sections, with persistence by efforts by the regulatory body to unearth its modus operandi since 1993.
The efforts of the current Management of the NBC after an aggressive launch on the operation of illegal broadcasting stations with Radio Biafra’,a pirate radio station been on the lead.
