“2027 Will Shock Ex-Gov. Yahaya Bello”: OGO Says Kogi West Will Decide Its Own Senator
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Kogi West, Engr. Olumoroti George Olusola, popularly known as OGO, has declared that the people of the district will resist any attempt to impose a senatorial candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
OGO, a former APC governorship aspirant in Kogi State and one of the party’s leading figures in Kogi West, made the remark in a statement stressing that the district has a long history of standing against political interference in its electoral decisions.
According to him, Kogi West previously resisted attempts to recall Dino Melaye during the administration of former governor Yahaya Bello, noting that the same determination would be demonstrated again if any effort is made to dictate who becomes the next senator from the district.
OGO also referenced developments in Kogi Central, stating that despite the influence of Bello and the current governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, they could not ultimately determine who would represent the district in the Senate.
Speaking on the internal processes of the APC, he explained that the party’s senatorial candidate is likely to emerge through direct primaries, where party members vote to choose their preferred aspirant.
He added that consensus candidature would only be possible if all aspirants voluntarily submit written letters withdrawing from the race. OGO expressed confidence that the current senator representing Kogi West, Sunday Karimi, would not withdraw from the contest.
“The final outcome will shock Yahaya Bello and Ododo,” he said, ending his remarks with a Yoruba proverb, “Didakẹ ẹkun ki nse ti ojo kọ,” meaning silence should not be mistaken for surrender as time will eventually reveal the true political direction of Kogi West ahead of the 2027 election
