As political permutations ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum across Nigeria, the mood in Ajaokuta Federal Constituency is clear and unmistakable: the people are not ready for complacency, and they are certainly not ready for experiment.
From the riverine communities of Gadumo to the industrial hub of Ajaokuta town, from the farming settlements of Osara to the commercial centers of Gadabiu, a single message resonates — continuity over uncertainty.
That continuity, constituents say, is embodied in the person of Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem, the serving member representing Ajaokuta Federal Constituency in the 10th National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Elected on the strength of his antecedents and grassroots connection, Hon. Sanni Egidi has, within a short period in office, redefined what quality representation means for the people of Ajaokuta.
In legislative duties, he has not been a bench-warmer. His contributions on the floor of the House have been described by colleagues and political observers as a watershed — incisive, data-driven, and tailored to the peculiar needs of his constituency.
He has sponsored and co-sponsored motions that speak directly to national development, security, youth empowerment and industrial revival, with Ajaokuta’s peculiar challenges always at the front burner.
But for the people back home, legislation is only one side of the coin. The other side is impact — tangible, visible, and life-changing.
And in that regard, Hon. Sanni Egidi’s scorecard is already generating conversations across the constituency.
In education, he has facilitated classroom blocks, scholarship schemes, and learning materials for primary and secondary schools that had long been neglected.
In health, primary healthcare centers have received medical equipment, drugs and renovation support, bringing relief to mothers, children and the elderly who hitherto traveled long distances for basic care.
In infrastructure, rural roads that linked farmers to markets have been graded and rehabilitated, while solar-powered streetlights and boreholes have illuminated and quenched the thirst of several communities.
For youths, the story is about skills and jobs. Through training programs, empowerment grants and federal job placements facilitated by his office, hundreds of young people from Ajaokuta are now engaged productively rather than roaming the streets.
Women and widows have not been left out. Micro-grants, cooperative support and trading equipment have gone to women groups, helping to cushion economic hardship and restore dignity.
Agriculture, the mainstay of many families in the constituency, has received attention through the distribution of farm inputs, seedlings and advocacy for better access to federal agricultural programs.
What makes these interventions stand out, according to community leaders, is not just the quantity but the spread. No section of Ajaokuta feels left behind.
Political stakeholders across party lines acknowledge that Hon. Sanni Egidi has run an open-door office. His regular town-hall engagements and constituency briefings have kept the people informed and involved.
“Experimentation is expensive,” said a community elder in Adogo. “We have tried it before and paid for it. Now that we have someone who listens, who delivers, and who understands Ajaokuta, we are not going back.”
That sentiment is echoed by youth leaders, market women, and labor groups who insist that 2027 should be about consolidating gains, not starting afresh with an unknown quantity.
Hon. Sanni Egidi himself has pledged to sustain and even surpass the feats already recorded. He says the 10th Assembly is just the foundation for a bigger vision for Ajaokuta.
In his words, “My mandate is to ensure that Ajaokuta gets its fair share in national discourse and in federal presence. What we have done so far is a down payment. There is still a lot to do.”
He has aligned his legislative agenda with the development priorities of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that synergy between federal and state will fast-track development.
Analysts note that Ajaokuta, with its strategic importance as home to the Ajaokuta Steel Company and vast mineral resources, cannot afford representation that is passive or experimental.
The constituency needs a voice that is already seated at the table, that understands the workings of the National Assembly, and that can lobby, legislate and attract projects.
For many constituents, that voice is already speaking, and it is speaking well.
As 2027 approaches, the refrain in Ajaokuta is growing louder: no complacency, no experiment. The people are sticking with Hon. Sanni Egidi Abdulraheem — for proven performance, for continuity, and for the future of Ajaokuta Federal Constituency.
