2026 New Yam Festival: Babarinde Oloke Congratulates the Alamuro of Amuro, Amuro Communities, Calls for Agricultural Growth

 

The Accord Party candidate for Mopamuro State Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 Kogi State House of Assembly election, Hon. Babarinde Oloke, has congratulated the Alamuro of Amuro, His Royal Majesty, Oba Alfred Modupe Aiyedogbon, and the people of Amuro Communities on the celebration of the 2026 New Yam Festival.

Oloke described the annual cultural festival as a timeless symbol of gratitude, unity, hard work, and agricultural prosperity, noting that it remains one of the most cherished traditions of the Amuro people.

In a goodwill message made available to journalists, the Mopamuro Assembly hopeful extended warm felicitations to the royal father, the Council of Chiefs, community leaders, elders, women, youths, farmers, and sons and daughters of Amuro at home and in the diaspora for witnessing another successful celebration.

He said the New Yam Festival offers an opportunity for the people to thank Almighty God for a fruitful farming season while preserving the rich cultural heritage and values that have continued to define the identity of the Amuro Communities.

According to Oloke, the significance of the festival goes beyond the ceremonial presentation of the new yam, as it reflects the enduring virtues of diligence, unity, peaceful coexistence, and communal development.

«”The New Yam Festival is a celebration of our rich cultural heritage and a season of thanksgiving to Almighty God for His faithfulness and abundant blessings. It reminds us that through unity, hard work, and peaceful coexistence, our communities can continue to flourish and achieve greater development,” he stated.»

Oloke commended farmers across Amuro and other communities in Mopamuro Local Government Area for their resilience, determination, and invaluable contributions to food production despite prevailing economic and environmental challenges.

He stressed that agriculture remains the backbone of the local economy and called for greater investment in modern farming techniques, rural infrastructure, agricultural extension services, and youth participation in agribusiness to boost food security, create employment opportunities, and stimulate economic growth.

The Accord Party candidate also urged residents of Mopamuro to continue promoting peace, unity, and mutual respect, emphasizing that sustainable development can only thrive in an atmosphere of harmony and collective responsibility.

“As we celebrate this year’s New Yam Festival, let us renew our commitment to building stronger communities founded on peace, unity, and shared prosperity. Together, we can unlock the enormous potential of our people and create a brighter future for generations to come,” Oloke added.

He prayed for abundant harvests, favourable weather conditions, good health, lasting peace, and continued prosperity for the Alamuro of Amuro, the entire Amuro Communities, and the people of Mopamuro Local Government Area.
