11 years after nursing the ambition of becoming a federal lawmaker in the green chamber, former special adviser to Kwara State Governor, Otunba Taye Afolabi, is set to actualise his dreams ahead of the 2023 general elections
Speaking to journalists on Friday, Afolabi who was the Kwara south Senatorial district for PDP between 2004 to 2008 said his ambition is hinged on his passion for quality service delivery to his people.
Drawing strength from his wealth of experience, having served in various capacities in both elected and appointed positions in the State, Afolabi said he was confident of getting nomination from his party to contest for the 2023 elections.
“I had the ambition of representing my people in Offa/Oyun/Ifelodun federal constituency since 2011 but owing to the interest of the party, as a loyal party man, I had to step down my ambition till now, which I have the strong belief that it is the right time,” he said.
Speaking against the backdrop of the crisis in the party, escpailly in the State, Otunba Afolabi expressed confidence that the party will bounce back as evidences have showed that there are loopholes to explore by the PDP at both the State and national level ahead of the general elections.
The federal lawmaker hopeful said the people are now more wiser and clearly know where to pitch their tent at the right time.
In his words, “As a grassroots politician, we are not unaware of the challenges in our party but I can assure you that these challenges are surmountable and we will leverage on our previous achievements especially in the State to come out stronger and better to impact positively in the lives of our people.”
Speaking on the role of traditional rulers in governance, the former State Executive Council member, said most of the challenges at the grassroots level would be tackled by making royal fathers more relevant in policy and decision making processes, as doing this will also check insecurity at the grassroots level.
The lawmaker hopeful while stressing the need for empowerment of youth and women said that the foundation towards liberating the youth is through qualitative education and vocation which he said would be pursued vigorously by him if elected.
