A Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC in Kogi West, Dr. Williams Toyin Akanle has warned politicians against overheating the polity ahead of the 2023 General Elections, saying it is too early.
Dr. Akanle told Newsmen shortly after revalidating his membership of the ruling APC at Ward 7, Isanlu, Yagba East Local Government of Kogi State that the Leadership of the Party must call those who are overheating the polity to order.
He stated that “As it is, the party should also look into activities of its members that are already soliciting support for 2023 even before the mid term of the present government. To me it is too early, as it could inflame the polity and it will create distraction.”
According to him, ” the President is not up to two years in office for his 2nd term and people are already going from state to state to canvass support, it’s very sad.They should concentrate on governance and building a viral party that can succeed itself
There is need for Cohesion in the party. As it is now, there is a fragmentation of the party along interest divides.”
“Our party leaders should endeavour to come together and harmonize their interest so that the party can remain stronger and draw more people into its fold. It is therefore expected for the govt which is being runned by our party must do everything and all things to ensure stability in the polity. The time for that is now as it is very urgent.” the APC Chieftain advised.
He noted that the importance of the membership registration and revalidation exercise cannot be overemphasized as “the strength of the party is in its membership,
People should be mobilized to register and revalidate their membership of the ruling party.”
Dr. Akanle called on the people of Kogi West to join APC.
“I advise all to take part in the exercise, the
Party should also go all out to encourage members to revalidate.” he stated.
On the security situation in Nigeria, the APC Chieftain explained that Blood letting, rape, destruction of farm lands have driven farmers from their farmland to the homes due to fear of being kidnapped or killed.
“This indeed will have implications on our food security and will further exobate the level of poverty. The President (Muhammadu Buhari) is advised to takes critical look at the security situation of the country as there can be no development in the state of insecurity.
The economy will continue to dwindle and the economy exacerbate.”
He stressed the need to further “ensure that the rate of despondency as it is now is lifted, address so that people can have confidence in the government. The government can no longer over look the implications of farmers herders clashes all over the country. Failure to look at this area appropriately as been responsible for the stradent calls for a critical look at our kind of federalism. Such agitation will continue except the government can positively change the current narrative.”
