2023 Election: NUJ North Central berates attack on journalists

The Nigeria Union of journalists, North Central Zone, condemn attacks on journalists in the zone, especially Nasarawa and Niger States, during the just concluded General Election.
In Nasarawa State, Mr. Edwin Philip, head of News and Current Affairs, Breeze FM Lafia, was on Saturday, March 18, 2023, attacked by men of Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps while covering the Governorship and State Assembly Election.

While in Niger State, journalists of Landmark FM Kontagora who were also covering the Governorship and State Assembly Election were manhandled by men of Nigerian Army.
We wish to call on the commandants of NSCDC Nasarawa State and that of Nigerian Army Kontagora to investigate the infringement of the fundamental human rights of the journalists and punish their personnel involved, to serve as a deterrent to others.
The NUJ is worried because the attack on journalists negates the collective resolve by Nigerians to guarantee the sustenance of democracy in the country.
